    High School Students Help Middle Schoolers Learn To Lead

    "A leader doesn't have to be perfect," said Sophia Mayhugh, seventh grade at Springs Studio for Academic Excellence when asked what she learned at the annual District 49 Middle School Leadership Conference at Sand Creek High School April 15. "A leader makes mistakes, but always tries to do the next right thing."

    SSAE Cares For Community With Bountiful Harvest of Love

    "Springs Studio for Academic Excellence is such an incredible partner of ours," said Care and Share's Shannon Coker. "Not only do they participate in Harvest of Love, they also volunteer in our gardens as a part of their Green Design and Technology class. The students want to be a part of the solution to hunger, that is incredibly evident by not only giving their time but collecting food and money to feed families in need."

  • Class of 2015: Falcon Virtual Academy

    Fifty-six students graduated from Falcon Virtual Academy on May 15. This is the last graduating class from FVA as it will evolve into Springs Studio for Academic Excellence during the summer.

    "I chose you because you were quite fun to talk to and work with throughout my high school career and encouraged me regularly to pursue greater heights in my writing of which I am so fond of," wrote Johnathan Dillard about FVA teacher Jill Pellegrini, "Thank you enough for being such an amazing teacher." Pellegrini placed the graduation cap on Dillard's head at the school's annual capping ceremony.

    Gymnast Finds Balance In Blended Learning

    "Gymnastics is easier to focus on because of the flexibility I have at Falcon Virtual Academy," said Jay Barnish, who recently qualified for the U.S. Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships. "I get more time in the gym when I need it because of the freedom."

    49 Pathways: Concurrent Enrollment

    Increasing numbers of District 49 students are taking college courses while in high school. Science teachers from District 49 high schools and Pikes Peak Community College department chairs and science professors met March 13 to discuss how both organizations can best serve this group of students.
