Program Overview

  • Fathers and Father-figures,

WATCH D.O.G.S.® is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps them to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life.  Our goal is to have you spend at least one day this year at the school to be a positive male role model and to provide an extra set of eyes and ears.

Dads, granddads, uncles, step-dads . . . this is your chance to have a night out alone with your student in a fun atmosphere at school.

In order to participate, you will need to be cleared as a volunteer through District 49's HR office.

    4. Even if you have been fingerprinted through another district you will still need to complete fingerprints through D49

Once the fingerprinting process if complete you can use the following calendar link (also available by clicking the large Watch Dog Dad logo to the right) to sign up for your first day as a Watch Dog. Once you volunteer at ALLIES you and your student's picture will be listed under the Alumni page.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES in D49

  •

Volunteers are an important and integral part of our education system and community. Working alongside our staff and students, volunteers support student success by providing support and enhancements to our academic, athletic, and other programs. There are many ways you can get involved with District 49, such as:

    • Front Office: greeter, front desk help, general office duties

    • School Campus: cafeteria or recess monitoring, assist with special events

    • In the Classroom: reading in small groups, assist in supervising students, help ready materials

    • In the Library: organizing, reshelving books, help ready materials

    • Extracurricular Activities: chaperone on field trips*, coaching, clubs, and more

    How to Get Started:

    1. Complete the volunteer application. You will enter your information, select school preferences, and select the volunteer roles in which you want to serve. It is recommended that this application be submitted using a tablet, computer, or laptop. Mobile devices may cause formatting issues.

    2. Complete the criminal background check (within the application). The cost is $6.00 and you can pay with any major credit card. Volunteer background checks are only valid as described:

    • If a background check is completed between July 1 and Feb 28, the background check is valid through June 30.

    • If a background check is completed between March 1 and June 30, the background check is valid until June 30 of the following year. You will need to complete a new background check and pay the associated fee for each year you volunteer based on the parameters listed above.

*Note: Volunteers who volunteer for overnight field trips or out-of-district events will require a fingerprint based background check. Please contact the Human Resources Department for more details and to schedule an appointment.

Please allow at least 72 hours for your background check and volunteer application to be reviewed and approved. You will receive an automated email from the Raptor system once approved.

All personal data and background check information remains confidential. As part of standard school safety practices, all volunteers and visitors to District 49 schools must provide a photo ID each time they visit any district facility.

If you have visited the Human Resources department in the past to physically have your fingerprints rolled to be a volunteer, you do not need to complete a background check as listed above; that background check is valid indefinitely.

If you have any questions regarding the volunteer process or to verify whether or not you are an approved volunteer, please contact the Human Resources department at 719-495-1100.
