• Woodmen Hills Elementary School, located in Falcon Zone at 8308 Del Rio Road in Peyton, opened its doors in 1999 and consistently has an enrollment of more than 600 students, pre-school through fifth grade. The staff and community are proud of the fact that this large school has an overwhelming "small school" sense and feel about it. The staff engage all learners with personalized learning opportunities where students are truly the pilots of their own education.
     

    Curricula 

    Woodmen Hills Elementary School adopted CKLA for our English Language Arts curriculum and Eureka for our math curriculum.
     
    CKLA is a content-rich literacy curriculum distinguished by robust and sequential knowledge building, as well as systematic foundational skills instruction. CKLA 3–5 consists of original texts systematically and coherently ordered to build broad content knowledge in science, social studies, and the arts. An intentional approach to building knowledge invites students to engage with and make connections across topics not commonly taught in elementary literacy classrooms (e.g., Ancient Greece and the War of 1812 in grade 2). In K–2, high-interest, fully decodable stories advance along with students’ foundational reading skills.
     
    Eureka Math is meticulously coherent, with an intense focus on key concepts that layer over time, creating enduring knowledge. Students gain a complete body of math knowledge, not just a discrete set of skills. They use the same models and problem-solving methods from grade to grade, so math concepts stay with them, year after year.
     

    Extracurricular 

    Woodmen Hills Elementary School offers convenient before and after-school care provided by BASE49. This includes quiet homework areas, fitness and a character-building curriculum. The school also offers a variety of enrichment opportunities including: Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, land sharks running club, Young Rembrandts, math and science enrichment, garden club, instrumental music and choir.
     

    Community

    The students benefit from an active Parent-Teacher Association that goes the extra mile to make the school one of the best in the Pikes Peak region. They also have a tremendous amount of supportive parent volunteers, averaging more than 10 volunteers per day.

That tradition carries on today with six highly successful schools: Falcon High, Falcon Middle, Falcon Elementary School of Technology, Woodmen Hills Elementary, Meridian Ranch Elementary, and Bennett Ranch Elementary.     Falcon Zone offers the following programs: Academy of Health Science, Academy of Finance, Academy of Information Technology, Air Force JROTC, FBLA, Distributive Education Clubs of America, Link Crew, National Honor Society, Student-to-Student program, and many others. The zone offers more than 20 advanced placement and CU Succeed Classes. Its schools performed well on CMAS and SAT.

    While the Falcon Zone greatly honors tradition, we also embrace that our leaders today deserve a different learning experience from yesteryear - one that will prepare them to be successful in our ever-changing world.

Portfolio of Schools

  • Portfolio of Schools District 49 will create a robust portfolio of distinct and exceptional schools.  It’s not enough just to have a bunch of different kinds of schools; the district needs to have high quality, exceptional schools.  District 49 strives to offer wonderful schools in all of its zones, schools that are different from each other and superior to the options students might have in neighboring districts and communities.
     
    District 49’s board-approved strategic plan provides unified vision, goals and strategies to prepare students to achieve like never before.  Its strategic plan is organized around a big rocks metaphor.  If the district identifies and focuses on what's most important – its big rocks to Sustain Enduring Trust, Engage Our Community, Build Firm Foundations, Offer Exceptional Choices, Launch Successful Students, and Value All People – and then adds other things around them, the medium-sized rocks, and finally works in the pebbles, everything better fits together.  District 49 has applied this metaphor in its strategic plan, which identifies the district's Big Rocks.  These strategic initiatives will be emphasized over the upcoming years, representing the district’s commitment to its community.  These five rocks are its foundation for building an excellent future with its staff, students and greater community.
