Mr. Todd Matia

Todd is an educator with an entrepreneurial spirit.  He engages students through engineering and design programs that are part of the national Project Lead the Way and IB programs, and he endeavors to inspire students with real-world projects.  

Todd has been a teacher at Sand Creek High School for 15 years, and has been an integral part of their growing engineering and CTE program.  He also brings a wealth of real-world design experience into the classroom, as he is the CEO and Creator of Stinky Kid Math.  Stinky Kid Math is a new way to teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry that relates well to right-brained and creative thinkers.  You can check out his work at www.StinkyKidMath.com.  He is also founder and CEO of the Colorado Engineering Summit, a program that inspires and educates students about careers in STEM fields, specifically engineering.  

Todd has built a wide network of industry and secondary education partnerships, and provides his students with industry opportunities.  He has also offers a broad knowledge of post-secondary education institutions having had the privilege to teach at several prestigious universities around the nation including Duke University, University of Minnesota, Iowa State University, Colorado University at Colorado Springs, and many more.

Todd has received the Lemelson-MIT Excite Award, as well as an official MIT InvenTeams Grant for innovation.  Most recently, he and his students were recognized by the Mayor of Colorado Springs for their inspiring work to pursue a clean water project for the island of La Gonave Haiti.  In 2014, he was awarded the national DiscoverE Educator award for his work in engineering education and the Boettcher Teacher Recognition award.  One of his previous Project Lead the Way Senior Design Teams won the National PLTW Innova Award for innovation in design for their creation of a Backpack Chair.  
 
Todd loves rock climbing, playing music, and leading the Young Life club at Sand Creek.   His passion is making sure your student has the best opportunity and foundation to excel in their future!
