The ninth annual fishing event for students with special needs was held May 7 at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park. Gross and fine motor skills, fish biology and habitat, knot tying and water pollution were featured as part of the curriculum for the event.

Students With Special Needs Sharpen Warrior Skills
Eleventh-grader Phillip Held, 17, navigates an obstacle course April 21 at Sand Creek High School in District 49. Two teams of students with special needs, ranging from developmental to intellectual disabilities, had rushed into the school’s field house, where they discovered an adapted obstacle course based on the popular NBC television program “American Ninja Warrior.”

Scorp Tank: Business Leaders Shape Student Ideas
Local business leaders were on hand at Sand Creek High School to hear students pitch business ideas. Students could ask for up to a $100 investment from the judges as part of the program, a play off of the popular TV show 'Shark Tank'.
