My name is Mr.Shanks and I have the privilege of introducing myself as the PE teacher at Ridgeview Elementary. I started at Ridgeview in 2021 and have loved it from the beginning. From the Enrichment team all the way up to administration, everyone is friendly and welcoming.

          I grew up in Colorado Springs and actually did all of my schooling in district 49. Teaching in the same district that I grew up in is special to me and was something I was hoping for when applying and interviewing for jobs. I got my Bachelors of science in Exercise and Sports Science from Western Colorado University. 

          Teaching your kids how to excel in Physical Education is a great honor and I look forward to it every day. A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body. John F. Kennedy said it well when he said, “Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong.” I fully agree with that quote and there are more and more studies being done about how exercise and movement help the brain and cognitive ability.
