    The ninth annual fishing event for students with special needs was held May 7 at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park. Gross and fine motor skills, fish biology and habitat, knot tying and water pollution were featured as part of the curriculum for the event.

    Matthew Wentz, FHS class of 2015 salutatorian, was presented with an appointment to the United States Military Academy West Point during the annual ceremony. Wentz was also honored with a Coca-Cola scholarship, recognition from the American Chemical Society and named as outstanding senior student by the FHS business department May 5.

    Increasing numbers of District 49 students are taking college courses while in high school. Science teachers from District 49 high schools and Pikes Peak Community College department chairs and science professors met March 13 to discuss how both organizations can best serve this group of students.
