Hi! My name is Kathy Tarry. I am beginning my sixth year in the Falcon Zone as an English Language Development teacher. I have also taught Spanish, Special Education, Reading and 1st grade. I was born in San José Costa Rica, a child of American missionaries, and spent most of my childhood there. We moved to Guatemala during my high school years. I attended public schools in Costa Rica through 3rd grade and then was moved to a bilingual school until I started high school in Guatemala. Learning to read and write in English was monumental task! I can empathize with my students struggling to do the same. I tell them that if I can do it, so can they! I attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene Texas after graduating from high school in Guatemala. I met my husband of 32 years there and embarked into a life in the Air Force after he graduated. After living in England, Texas, California, and Illinois we made our last move to Colorado Springs in 1994. We have three amazing children who are all grown now. 

I finished my undergraduate work at The University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) with a degree in Spanish Literature and then earned my elementary teaching license. I also hold a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with reading as my primary emphasis from UCCS. I am endorsed in Special Education and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLDE). I am currently working on a second master's degree in CLDE through Western Governer's University. 

When I am not teaching or studying, I enjoy spending time with my family, enjoying beautiful Colorado and I have a dog that is certified as a therapy dog. I enjoy taking her on visits to a variety of places. It is a lot of fun to take my dog and a big bag of books that bring smiles to little faces going through tough times.

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Kathy Tarry. Estoy comenzando el sexto año en Falcon Zone como maestra de Desarrollo del Idioma Inglés. También enseñé español, la educación especial, lectura y 1er grado. Nací en San José Costa Rica, hijo de misioneros estadounidenses, y pasé la mayor parte de mi infancia allí. Nos mudamos a Guatemala durante mis años en la secundaria. Asistí a escuelas gobernales en Costa Rica hasta tercer grado y luego me trasladaron a una escuela bilingüe. Comencé la escuela secundaria en Guatemala completamente in inglés. ¡Aprender a leer y escribir en inglés fue una tarea monumental! Puedo empatizar con mis alumnos que se esfuerzan por hacer lo mismo. Les digo que si ya puedo hacerlo, ¡también pueden!

Asistí a la Universidad Hardin-Simmons en Abilene Texas después de graduarme de la escuela secundaria en Guatemala. Conocí a mi esposo de 32 años allí y empezamos  una vida en la Fuerza Aérea después de la graduación de él. Después de vivir en Inglaterra, Texas, California e Illinois, hicimos nuestro último movimiento a Colorado Springs en 1994. Tenemos tres hijos increíbles que ya crecieron.

Terminé mis estudios de pregrado en la Universidad de Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) con una licenciatura en Literatura Española y luego obtuve mi licencia de enseñanza primaria. También tengo una maestría en Currículo e Instrucción con lectura como el énfasis principal de UCCS. Estoy respaldado en Educación Especial y Educación Cultural y Lingüística Diversa (CLDE). Actualmente estoy trabajando en una segunda maestría en CLDE a través de Western Governer's University.

Cuando no estoy enseñando o estudiando, disfruto pasar tiempo con mi familia y disfruto la naturaleza de Colorado. Tengo una perrita que está certificada como perra de terapia. Me gusta llevarla de visita a variedades de lugares. Es muy divertido llevar a mi perra y una gran bolsa de libros para dar sonrisa a las caritas pequeñas que atraviesan momentos difíciles.
