Homework Policy

  • Homework is a valuable part of our curriculum. It reinforces lessons taught in the classroom, teaches responsibility, and keeps you informed of what your child is learning in class.

Your student will be responsible for writing their homework assignments in their planner each day. It is their responsibility to bring their planner and homework to you to have you check it and sign their planner each evening. Please sign your child's planner after they have shown you their completed work.

Homework will always be due the next day after it is assigned unless otherwise indicated in their planner or on the homework sheet. If your child is unable to complete a homework assignment, please write me a note in their planner and they may have one additional day to turn it in. If your child is absent and needs to make up work, the work will be due the following day after they return back to school.

The third grade policy on homework is 30 minutes each evening, Monday-Thursday. This time frame should include 20 minutes of reading each day, recorded in their planner on a nightly basis. We do encourage our students to read on the weekends, but it is not required homework. Reading regularly at this age is essential for building fluency and comprehension skills.

If all homework assignments for the week are not turned in by 9:00 a.m. on Friday, students will go to study hall during Fun Friday. Therefore, we are soliciting your help in making sure your student's homework is completed, recorded, and returned on time.
