Hello!

I am Tisha Martin and I couldn’t be happier to be here in the library at Bennett Ranch Elementary.  I am relatively new to the Colorado Springs community, having moved here just over 3 years ago with my husband of 29 years, Curtis, my son, Evan (24) and our dogs, Huxley, and Cassius.

I have been in education for 17 years, 14 of them at Sierra Vista Elementary in Pueblo West and the last 3 here at BRES.  The first 9 years were spent as the school librarian, where my passion for children’s literature and literacy grew.  My first year in the classroom was in Kindergarten and I then moved into 1st grade until 2023. The move back into the library has been an absolute JOY! Having the opportunity to work with ALL the kids in the school is amazing and so gratifying.

I care deeply for each student that walks through my door. I love these kiddos and work diligently to create independent learners, readers and grow their passion for books!  These kids can do amazing things when they are given an opportunity to try. I expect all of my kids to try.  If we’re not making mistakes, we’re not growing and learning.

Social emotional learning is also a priority. While kids are incredibly resilient, they must be able to navigate this crazy world we live in with courage and grit.

I earned my master’s degree in Technology and Instruction during the COVID shutdown.  I enjoy being a student as much as I love being a teacher and librarian.

When time allows, my family and I love to travel.  We’ve traveled to a variety of locations. We’ve seen much of the US, Caribbean, Western Europe, England, Mexico and Israel.  We can’t wait to get back out there!
