Hello my name is Makai Perez and I am excited to be teaching kindergarten at Inspiration View again this year! I am a native of Colorado Springs, but I have returned to Colorado after 8 years, following my husband’s retirement from the military. I earned a B.A. in History from the University of Colorado. During that time, I also completed the elementary teacher licensure program and became a certified elementary educator. After starting my teaching career, I attended Colorado College and earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. During my 15-year career I have taught in Colorado, New Mexico and most recently in Texas. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, third grade, as well as math and social studies for grades 3-5. I also have experience working as a Title 1 teacher.

Teaching has always been my passion, and early childhood education has always been an important part of that. The early years of education are so critical because they are the foundation for future success. My goal as an educator is to help students develop a love of learning, a curiosity about the world around them and the belief that they are capable of reaching the goals that they set for themselves. Being able to watch a student grow, learn and be proud of what he or she accomplished is one of the best parts of being a teacher!

Outside of school, I loved spending time with my family. My husband’s name is Steve and we have two sons named Zachary and Eric. In addition to spending time with my family, I love reading historical fiction novels, taking walks with my dog
Maxwell, and traveling to new places. I am pleased to be part of the IVES family and I look forward to
meeting my new students and their families!
