Mr. Rik Yantis
Welcome.
This year I am starting my 20th year here at Horizon, I am part of our school's CTE (Career and Technical Education) Team where I teach STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects. We will be learning about engineering and the design process. If I have any parents that are engineers and are interested in sharing with my classes about your profession, please give me a call!
As an enrichment/elective teacher, I will be teaching the following courses to the following grades.
6th Grade: Health Science - This class is based on Project Lead the Way's (PLTW) Medical Detectives
7th Grade: Pre-Engineering: PLTW Flight and Space and Magic of Electrons
8th Grade: PLTW Automation and Robotics
On a personal note: I am married and we have two boys. My youngest graduated from the University of Denver and now lives in San Diego. My oldest is married and now lives in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Camy Yantis who works here at Horizon is my daughter-in-law and is the mother of my little 19 month's old princess granddaughter.
As a parent, I know how nerve-racking having a middle schooler can be for both the student and parents. DO NOT PANIC! While we might be confused at times, we will have fun and learn something at the same time.
I am a firm believer in the Teacher/Student/Parent team. We will work together.
