Homework is assigned throughout the week and is due the day after it is assigned. Points are given at the beginning of each week for a possible total of 5000 points per week. If a student does not complete their assigned daily work with work/effort shown, they will receive a point deduction. This method is used to ensure that students get practice in a timely manner, and I am able to help students go over problems that were difficult or misunderstood in real time. Due to the necessity of students getting their daily practice, students can redo their assignments and regrade them during study lab to improve their score. Once a unit is complete, scores cannot be recovered.
While students are encouraged to do their best on their first attempt on tests, they can be reattempted if a student comes to study lab to practice their missing skills. After practice, students can retake a new version of the exam, also during study lab. Students will only have two total attempts on an exam.
Pre-Engineering 7 - (Agricultural Engineering for 8th)
-
This class focuses on introducting students to the design process of engineering as defined in the PLTW curriculum. In addition to engineering concepts, students are introduced to the school greenhouse and take part in planting, cultivating, and maintaining the greenhouse. Students will also be afforded opportunities to take part in service activities to help keep our school and grounds in good shape, cultivating a sense of pride in our school, community, and environment. All classwork is assigned through google classroom, with scores being available there as well as on PowerSchool. Students can make up missing work by completing it on google classroom and submitting or resubmitting the assignments. Late work will be accepted until the end of the unit, however points cannot be recovered once the unit is complete.
Projects include: designing a garden or greenhouse; creating a service plan; learning how to safely use tools and equipment available for use.
Flight and Space (7th Grade)

Students build on their knowledge of the design process of engineering as described in the PLTW curriculum, however no previous knowledge of this is necessary to find success in the class. All classwork is assigned through google classroom, with scores being available there as well as on PowerSchool. Students can make up missing work by completing it on google classroom and submitting or resubmitting the assignments. Late work will be accepted until the end of the unit, however points cannot be recovered once the unit is complete.
Projects include: Paper Airplane Design; Glider Design; Rocket Design; Biodome Design; and Mission to Colonize the Moon
Energy and the Environment (8th Grade)
-
In this course, students look at the environmental impact that humans, especially through the use of fossil fuels, have had and continue to have on the environment. After looking at the impact, we discuss alternative sources of energy for the production of electricity. Our final unit discusses our use of resources and methods of reducing our impact on the world through conservation and efficiency. All classwork is assigned through Google Classroom, with scores being available there as well as on PowerSchool. Students can make up for missing work by completing it through Google Classroom and submitting or resubmitting the assignments. Late work will be accepted until the end of the unit, but points cannot be recovered once the unit is complete.
Projects include: Windmill Design; The Energy Expo; The Water/Energy Audit; Penguin House; CO2 Cars
