Mr. Andrew King
I am a Colorado native who grew up in Craig and Delta, Colorado. I have a Bachelors of Music Education and a Masters of Music Education with an Emphasis in Conducting from Colorado State University. I taught K-12 music for 3 years in Hotchkiss, Colorado. In 2008 I moved to Colorado Springs where I taught 5 years at Wasson High School, 3 years at Galileo Middle School, and 8 years at Mitchell High School. My professional memberships include Colorado Bandmasters Association, Colorado Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. While I play all band instruments well enough to teach them, my main instrument is the tuba. I play in the Little London Winds, a community band of musicians from various walks of life. I am very excited to be the band director at Vista Ridge High School!
Percussion is for students who already play percussion and have one or more years of experience on their instrument. We learn proper techniques for all the various individual percussion instruments, practice the percussion parts of Concert Band & Wind Ensemble music to perform with those ensembles on concerts, and work together on various percussion ensembles.
Wind Ensemble is an advanced ensemble that will have an audition to participate. Music is rigorous and advanced in nature. We explore various genres of band music.
Jazz Band is an advanced ensemble that will have an audition to participate. Music is rigorous and advanced in nature. We explore various genres of jazz music.
Music Theory explores how music is structured, written, and constructed. It is for students currently enrolled in a band or choir class.
Concert Band is open to all brass and woodwind players with one or more years of previous experience on their instrument. It is a non-auditioned group. We explore various genres of band music.
